Dental Implants - Are they an option for you?!

What are Dental Implants?

Whether teeth are lost because of disease or an accident, dental implants are often an excellent option to regain your smile and proper chewing function. For individuals who are missing teeth, having those teeth replaced with dental implants can be life changing because they look and feel like a natural tooth. Patience often feel more confident in their smile which, in turn, makes them feel more confident in themselves.

The dental implant procedure is a tried and proven method for restoring the function and aesthetics of a full set of teeth. The process involves surgically placing a titanium post into the upper or lower jawbone where the tooth is missing. Once the area has healed over, a dental abutment is attached to the implant. Finally, a ceramic crown which looks and feels like a natural tooth is attached to the abutment.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Implants have several benefits over other methods of restoring the aesthetics and function of a patient’s teeth. Because implants are permanently attached in a way similar to the patient’s natural teeth, they won't slip or shift in your mouth. This secure attachment means that eating and talking feel much more natural than with a removable dentures. This secure fit also makes implants feel more natural than removable partial or conventional complete dentures.

There are also several less obvious advantages to implants over other methods. Unlike bridges, a single tooth implant is a stand-alone unit and doesn't involve treating the teeth next to it. Implants also help prevent loss of bone that is common after teeth are lost or removed.

Although at first glance dental implants may seem expensive, when considering that aesthetically and functionally they are far superior, and that implants can last a lifetime; it is easy to see that in the long run implants are often a better value than other methods available.
